WELCOME

Hello, and welcome to the home page of the Residents and Fellows Section of the New York State Radiological Society.

The Residents and Fellows Sections of the NYSRS was formed to serve in an official capacity as advocates of radiology residents in the State of New York. Our purpose is to promote communication among radiology residents throughout the State of New York, to assist in establishing standards for radiological training programs in the State of New York, to provide a forum for the education of residents and fellow, and to provide a mechanism for input and involvement by residents in the educational, socioeconomic, and policy making functions of the NYSRS.

The internet provides an exciting new means by which residents and more senior radiologists may share information. Below you will find a calendar of events organized by the Residents' Sections of the NYSRS. Also, please read the short discussion of internet links provided below. The internet is an invaluable resource of gathering information that would otherwise take many hours of mailings and phone calls. Abundant resources regarding jobs, fellowships, professional organizations, grants and awards, and teaching files are currently available, and more are being added all the time.

Apart from gathering information for personal purposes of career and educational advancement, the internet may aid radiology residents in influencing the course of larger political events involving their profession. The field of radiology and the medical profession in general are in the midst of a pivotal time in their history. Decisions that are being made now and that will be made in the near future are magnified in importance as the health care reform effort takes root and evolves. Given the current turbulent nature of the medical profession, and of the field of radiology in particular, it is now more important than ever to make a difference and to make your opinion known. The New York State Radiological Society, as the sole representative organization of radiologists in New York to the American College of Radiology, is an effective channel by which to influence the outcome of the decision making process on local and national levels.

Please feel free to contact the members of the Residents' Sections of the NYSRS at the addresses below with any questions, suggestion, or comments that you may have. Good luck.

INTERNET LINK SUGGESTIONS

It is suggested that interested parties use the Interesting Website Links page of this NYSRS web site as a launch pad for information on the internet. . The RSNA has perhaps the most comprehensive and useful web site.  A few of its resources include lists of professional organizations, research resources, research funding, teaching files, and a section for residents that includes a list of radiology residency and fellowship programs.   The RSNA Index to Imaging Literature covers 40 journals. The RSNA's Educational Resources Table of  Contents is a gateway to their extensive learning links, courses, online journals, online CME, index of imaging literature, Archives from the AFIP, etc. The RSNA's InteractED has online courses, exhibits, and more. The ACR is another excellent resource.  They have a  Residents Section, which has a Fellowship Directory (for members), a Universal Fellowship Form, the Neuroradiology Fellowship Application Match Program information, ACR Bulletin articles for residents, a radiology resident online forum, etc.  Their web site has a "Job Listing" section with open positions and available radiologists. In order to access the job listings you must have an ACR membership ID #. This number is easily obtained; directions for doing so are provided at the "Job Listings" section of the website.    The ACR's Imaging Network (ACRIN) funds cancer research projects that advance medical imaging and imaging-guided procedures.  The National Cancer Institute also has information about cancer research, career development and educational opportunities. Another section of this web site, Radiology Residency and Fellowship Programs in New York State, has listings and links to individual programs. Other sites for job listings and/or fellowship listings include the RSNA Classified Ads, Society of Pediatric Radiology, American Society of Neuroradiology, The Society of Interventional RadiologySociety of Breast Imaging, Society of Gastrointestinal Radiology, Society of Uroradiology, Society of Skeletal Radiology, Society of Thoracic Radiology, Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound, Society of Emergency Radiology, Society of Nuclear Medicine, AMA's FREIDA OnlineRadWork.com, PracticeLink, Physicians Employment, and RTJobs.com.  Google.com's Directory of Radiology Web Sites withTeaching Files  is constantly updated Radcom is an excellent internet portal specifically for radiology that has a search engine that can search several site for with radiology jobs.  For NY area jobs search Sunday's New York Times and enter the optional keyword "radiologist."  The Radiological Society of New Jersey had online job postings.  The American Board of Radiology has an informative site.  The AFIP's Department of Radiologic Pathology has information about their course and plans to have on-line CME.  The American Association of Academic Chief Residents in Radiology (A3CR2) has an informative website.  A databank of Radiology Board Questions can be found at Radiology Web.

Links to medical schools and teaching hospitals on the internet include the following: MGH Neurology's HospitalWeb links to hospitals on the web, Yahoo's Hospital ListingRSNA's Hospital Listing,  and the AAMC Council of Teaching Hospitals list of mailing addresses of teaching hospitals, including some links to web sites of teaching hospitals. Hospital Locator provides directions and maps to hospitals. American Hospital Directory has information about individual hospitals.

Other interesting sites include the Massachusetts Radiological Society Resident & Fellow SectionBrigham and Women's Radiology and Nuclear Medicine Links,  and Emory University's MedWeb voluminous list of medical links for most specialties and biomedical fields. Yahoo provides an excellent search engine to help find whatever other information you might be looking for. Medline allows one to perform a literature search on the Internet.  The Leisure Time section of the NYSRS website has nonacademic links. The Education and ACR's CPI Learning Internet Links pages of the NYSRS website leads to online educational resources.  If you create an online educational site in New York State, the NYSRS may link to it.  Are you interested in a particular subspecialty in Radiology?  The NYSRS website has Internet resources organized by radiology subspecialty.  There are radiology board review notes and practice questions for the written boards online from Creighton University Department of Radiology.  MCP Hahnemann University Libraries has excellent links to texts, journals, databases and resources on the Internet.
