New York State Radiological Society
Radiation Oncology Committee Report
October 6, 2000
Karen Fountain, M.D., Chairperson
Dr.
Louis Potters, Radiation Oncology Carrier Advisory Committee representative,
continues as Co-Chair of the national Carrier Advisory Committee. Their task is
to examine issues pertaining to HCFA policy on a national as well as on the
state and local levels.
The
policy on
Brachytherapy has been published. New York leads the nation having
developed such a policy first. California is now working on a brachytherapy
policy which will closely match ours.
The
ACR/ASTRO relationship via the Joint Economic Committee is working out
well. Radiation oncologists who belong to the ACR and State Chapter are
finding that there is strength in numbers and that our concerns are being heard
and supported by our colleagues in diagnostic radiology.
Sarah
S. Donaldson, M.D., was elected to a first three-year tern on the ACR Board of
Chancellors. Dr. Donaldson is Professor and Associate Chair of Radiation
Oncology at Stanford University and past president of ASTRO and the American
Board of Radiology. She has extensive experience within the ACR and with
services to government and health service agencies.
Radiation oncologists and radiation oncology physicists are invited to submit new applications for ACR Fellowship, including those candidates whose applications may have been deferred in the past due to limited years of ACR membership. With additional years and opportunities for service at the state and national level, reconsiderations are welcomed.
Radiation oncologists are again encourage to join RadPac and to continue to correspond with their legislators about issues which may affect our patients. Copies of such letters should be sent to Tom Wolfe, Senior Director of ACR Governmental Relations at FAX (703) 262-9312 or e-mail: tomw@acr.org.
